Experimental methods for determination of rate constant are discussed below:
1. Concentration change method:
In this method the concentration of one of the reactants or products is measured at different times.
2. Volumetric method:
In this method the volume of some gaseous product is noted at different times. E.g. In the decomposition of N2O5 or H2O2
3. Optical rotation method:
In this method the angle of rotation i.e. polarimetric readings are noted at different times e.g. in the inversion of cane sugar.
4. Pressure change method:
This method is applicable for gaseous reactions. In this method the pressure of the reaction mixture is noted at different times.
