The schistosoma are also known as blood fluke. It lives in the hepatic portal system and blood vessels of the human. Snail is the intermediate host. It feeds on blood and have aerobic mode of respiration. The male and female sexes are found together. Their association is lifelong. It shows sexual dimorphism. The male is thick and has flattened body. The female is cylindrical in shape and is longer than the males. The male and female have oral sucker and ventral sucker. In males ventral sucker is larger in size and stronger. After fertilization the female lays eggs in the blood vessels. It causes schistosomiasis which causes diarrhoea, anemia, and enlargement of liver, spleen and fever. However, this condition can be prevented. It belongs to class trematoda.
