It is a marine cnidarian. It includes both the modes of sexual as well as asexual form of reproduction. It shows the phenomena of polymorphism and is carnivorous. It has a pneumatophore which resembles a bladder. It has a gas plant which secretes the gas and helps the animal to survive in the sea. It also shows division of labor and has different types of zooids and tentacles. The zooids are dactylozooids, gastrozooids and gonozooids. Dactylozooids have tentacles which bear nematocysts. They go inside the skin and inject a poison. They catch the food and are organs of defense. Gastrozooids are polyps with the mouth. They lack the tentacles and are of nutritive value. Gonnozoids are reproductive zooids and has tentacles to kill the prey. They all are neurotoxin and are harmful.
