The honey bee is also known as apis. They build their nests and live in colonies. They are social and have many forms. They are of different types which are as follows: queens, drones and workers. The fertile female which lay eggs constitutes the queen. There is one queen in one nest. The drones are the males which copulate with queen. The workers are the sterile females which do number of roles. The worker feeds the rest of forms. They are the smallest member with chewing and tapping types of mouth parts. They are used to collect nectar and pollen. The wax glands are found in the abdomen. The workers can act as a scavenger, nurse bees and field bees. They all have different names. The scavenger is also known as sanitary bees. The nurse bees are also known as house bees. The field bees are also known as foraging. The scavenger role done by workers is for first 3 days. From the next day onwards they act like a nurse bee. They feed the other forms with pollen and honey. Than after the few days maxillary glands secrete a jelly which helps to feed the remaining forms of honey bee. Than after few days it develops wax glands. On the 15 day it becomes a field bee as it looks after the new sources of nectar and pollen. These are also refereed as the scout bees. Honey bees provide honey and play a vital role in the pollination of flowers. The use of bees wax is multiple in manufacturing goods, cosmetics and polishes etc. They have a poisonous sting which could be life threatening to the man. The honey bees are reared for honey and bees wax. The branch of science which deals with this is known as apiculture. Bees communicate with each other by the use of dance movements known as bee dances. They were discovered by Ernest Spytzner. The language of bee dance was decoded by Prof. Karl Von Frisch. He got the noble prize for this. He discovered the different dances for bee communication. It includes the round dance and tail wagging dance. The round dance denotes to the food source which is close to the hive while, the tail wagging dance denotes to the food source which is far away from the hive.
