The dracunculus is known as guinea worm. It occurs in the subcutaneous tissue of man. It produces a secretion which causes a blister on the skin. The female worm releases larvae in the water. They have an intermediate host known as Cyclops. The larvae goes into the intestine and finally to the subcutaneous tissues. They show sexual dimorphism. The female is longer and straight while the male is short and curved. The females have separate anus and genital aperture and these openings are combined in males. The male has couple of spicules. It causes dracunculiasis which is accompanied by itching, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
