Yeasts are without mycelium ascomycetes. In this asci are not organized in ascocarps. They reproduce asexually by budding, fission and combination of both. They are classified according to these criteria. They are also classified as true and false yeasts. True yeasts are those in which there is formation of ascus. While in false yeasts no ascus formation occurs and is also known as dueteromycetes. They are unicellular organisms and they have different shape like cylindrical or spherical. They are facultative aerobes and have chitin in their cell wall. The nucleus lies at one end. They have saprobic mode of nutrition. Sexual reproduction involves conjugation between cells of different mating types.
