The taiga is also known as a north coniferous forest. The biome occurs at the south of tundra region. It occurs in the Asia, America and Europe. It may also occur in the southern hemisphere. It covers around one tenth of the land mass. The precipitation is not constant and it occurs in the form of rainfall and snow. It varies around 10 to 35 cm in the drier areas and goes around 100 cm in the wet areas. The lakes are quite common in the wet areas. The marshes are also present which have moss sphagnum. The winters are quite chilly with a long duration nights. The winter temperature fluctuates around 6 degree Celsius. The summers have a temperature around 20 degrees Celsius. They have long hours of day light with a growing season extending around half a year. The flora and fauna are abundant in this region. The main vegetation consists of the evergreen conifers. They have the ability to tolerate the fluctuations in the soil and temperature. It includes the pine, fir and deodar. The deodar is also known as the cedar. In the favorable conditions the coniferous forest are present which are dense. The light reaches the ground which consists of shrubs, herbs, ferns and mosses. The ferns and mosses also occur on the trees and shrubs. They occur in the humid conditions. The maples are found at the multiple places and the wild flowers are very common. The animal present in this area includes the mouse, bear, beavers, rabbit, squirrel etc. They also have a variety of insects. In the winter most of the animals hibernate or migrate. The reindeer and caribou move to this region from the tundra.
