Write a short note on the habitat, microhabitat and the ecological niche of ecosystem?

The habitat is defined as a specific place occupied by an organism. It can also be occupied by the population or community. It may occur in the biotic or abiotic environment. It is also defined as the addition of environmental factors which play a vital role in the existence of individual or population or community. The habitat is more specific than the environment. The habitat is a combination of many factors. The habitat refers to a large area which can be pond, desert, grassland and woodland. It can be small like a bark of tree or burrow. The organism known as tubifex lives in the running and fresh water which is rich in the organic matter. The larva of chironomous has no oxygen but lives in the water. The malarial parasites live a dual life and live in the red blood cells and liver. Some organisms like hilsa can live in the fresh as well as marine water. They can adapt according to the environmental factors.
The habitat consists of microhabitat and they are specific due to the presence of environmental factors. It refers to floor of forest, muddy bottom and surface of pond including its edge. The ecological niche is also a specific place and it tells about the role of species in the ecosystem. It depends upon many factors. The type of food, predator, range of movement and tolerance, shelter, microclimate, building of nest, season of the year and time of the day, effect of the other components and the availability of food. It is also known as the sum of all interactions of a species with the environment. The owls and cats feed on shrews and mice so they occur in the same niche with having different habitats. The giant water bug and water boatman occur in the same area with a common habitat. But the giant water bug is predator and the water boatman is a scavenger. Similarly, the two species of birds of ploceus share the same habitat but they feed on different eatables. They reside in the nest. There are certain animals which are scavengers and share the same niche. The tadpole eats plants while the fox eats the animals. The rat flea larva is scavenger and the adult one is a parasite. So, the single organism shows a different niche with the ecological succession. The habitat is referred as an organisms address and the ecological niche is referred as an organism profession. These definitions are given by the Odum.
The ecological equivalents are defined as an organism which occupy a same niche but reside in the different regions. They have a similar type of adaptations but they belong to the dissimilar taxonomic groups. There are certain plants in the deserts of America which are referred as succulents. These are mainly cacti. There are certain plants in the deserts of Africa which are referred as euphorbias. The owls and cats feed on mice and shrew but they occur in the different habitat. The owl occurs in the desert areas and the cat occurs in the areas where the human resides.
